Our Favourite Fish & Chips on the Coffs Coast
There are some holidays where you book the fancy restaurant months in advance. Then there are beach holidays.
The kind where your hair is salty, your feet are sandy, and dinner is wrapped in paper, balanced on your knees while you watch the sun disappear into the Pacific.
If you ask us, fish and chips simply taste better by the ocean.
One of the joys of staying at The Beach Havens is discovering the little local traditions that make Emerald Beach and the Coffs Coast so special. A morning swim. An afternoon walk to Look At Me Now Headland. And somewhere between the two... the age-old question:
"Where’s the best local fish ‘n chips?"
After many years of living here (and plenty of delicious research), these are a few of our favourite places.
If it's all about the fish... head to Sea Salt, Woolgoolga
Sometimes you don't need ocean views or fancy surroundings—you just want beautifully cooked seafood.
For us, that's Sea Salt in Woolgoolga.
Fresh fish, crispy batter, generous serves and consistently good food. It's one of those places locals keep going back to because it simply gets the basics right.
Grab your order, wander down to the beach, and enjoy dinner with sand between your toes.
Simple. Fresh. Perfect.
If you want to feel part of the fishing community... Coffs Harbour Fishermen's Co-op
This is more than lunch—it's an experience.
The Coffs Harbour Fishermen's Co-op sits right beside the working fishing fleet, and there's something wonderfully authentic about eating seafood while watching the very boats that caught it head in and out of the harbour.
You can grab a table inside, or do what many locals do—cross the road, find a sunny spot overlooking the marina and enjoy your fish and chips surrounded by pelicans, seagulls, fishing boats and salty sea air.
It's one of those places that reminds you exactly where your meal came from.
Fresh doesn't get much fresher than this.
If your fish and chips need a view...
Some meals deserve a spectacular backdrop.
For long lunches or sunset dinners, we love Latitude 30.
Both serve up beautiful seafood alongside sweeping ocean views, making them perfect for those afternoons when nobody's watching the clock.
Order your favourite seafood, pour yourself something cold and watch the waves roll in while the sky changes colour.
It's hard to imagine a better way to end the day.

If you want to eat where the locals do... Rattle, Emerald Beach
Just a couple of minutes stroll from The Beach Havens, Rattle has become a much-loved part of the Emerald Beach community.
Relaxed, welcoming and full of local character, it's one of those places where familiar faces gather and visitors instantly feel at home.
While the menu offers far more than fish and chips, seafood lovers are always well looked after, and it's a wonderful option when you feel like letting someone else do the cooking.
After dinner, wander home beneath a sky full of stars—one of the many little luxuries of staying in Emerald Beach.
Our favourite way? Bring the fish and chips home.
Truthfully...
Our favourite fish and chip experience isn't always at a restaurant.
It's back at The Beach Havens.
Start with beautiful local seafood from Aussie Fresh Seafoods in Woolgoolga. Pick up prawns, oysters, fresh fish or whatever has come straight off the boats that day.
On the way home, stop at the Emerald Beach General Store and grab a generous serve of their golden, freshly cooked chips.
Then head back to Haven Oceana or Haven Tropicana.
Light the BBQ.
Cook your seafood exactly the way you like it. Pile those hot chips onto a big serving platter. Open a bottle of something chilled. Set the table out on the deck. The ocean breeze does the rest.
There's no rush. No booking times. No crowds.
Just fresh local seafood, people you love, and another unforgettable Emerald Beach evening.
Sometimes the simplest meals become the ones you remember long after the holiday has ended.
If you discover another wonderful seafood spot on the Coffs Coast during your stay, we'd genuinely love to hear about it. Some of our favourite places have come from recommendations shared around the barbecue by guests.
